TOPDECK FOUNDATION DONATES SECOND MOTORCYCLE TO POLICE DEPARTMENT

March 16, 2020 - Cornelius, NC - TopDeck Foundation Donates Second Dual Purpose motorcycle and

Three helmets to Cornelius Police Department

TopDeck is a public charity that is dedicated to raising funds to support the morale and mission of the Cornelius Police Department. Today they are donating a second dual-purpose motorcycle and three helmets to the Cornelius Police Department. The new vehicle will be used to access the many miles of paths and trails located in Cornelius. TopDeck donated a dual-purpose bike in August of last year, and the Police Department requested a second one so that officers can work in pairs which is safer.

Cornelius has many trails and paths open for the enjoyment of the public and there are several Greenway projects under design and/or already under construction. The 2013 Park Bonds that were voter-approved raised funds for construction and completion of an overall Greenway system which will eventually connect Mooresville to Charlotte with a pedestrian and biking trail. For the portions of the trail that runs through Cornelius, and for trails like the 4.7 miles in Robbins Park; Cornelius Police Department will access the trails when they need to respond to assistance calls. In order to safely and effectively access these paths and trails, the Police Department needed a vehicle designed for multi- terrain. The main benefit of a dual-purpose bike is that it is

lightweight and agile. Riders can easily change between terrain types and these types of motorbikes are easy to

pick up and sustain less damage when they fall.

Police Chief Black says, “ The Cornelius Police Department is appreciative of this donation of a second dual -purpose motorbike and helmets. They will be very useful for our officers who need to access the trails. In addition to Greenway access these bikes will also provide our officers the ability to efficiently respond to and check on areas currently not accessible by a patrol vehicle. These areas include but are not limited to; gas line rights of way, power line rights of way, etc. As the bikes move into service and we get some miles under our belts, I do see the department discovering additional tasks the bikes can be used for to improve/add to the

public safety services levels provided.  ” Approximately 15 officers currently have Motorcycle Licenses and they will rotate usage of the dual-purpose bike.

Major Baucom outfitted the bike and the helmets with all the necessary communications equipment and safety equipment. “This vehicle gets a lot of reaction from our citizens. Riding it makes us more approachable and allows us to interact in a new way. We have also had positive feedback from our trail and greenway users as they see us out on the paths.”

TopDeck worked with Kevin Powell Motorsports to provide the best bike for Cornelius, and the new motorbike and helmets will be formally presented to the Town and the Police Department at the March 16th Board of Commissioners meeting held at Cornelius Town Hall at 7:00 p.m.

TopDeck Foundation was formed to generate supplemental funds for programs and expenses that help support the morale and mission of the Police Department. TopDeck partners with Cornelius Police Chief Black to determine how best to leverage the generosity of the community. Don Rainey, a founder of TopDeck said “TopDeck continues to raise funds for items not covered in the town’s annual budget. We are pleased to be able to purchase this specialty vehicle and helmets for our town.”

TopDeck Foundation is a public charity (non-profit) that has received 501 (c)3 designation from the IRS.

TOPDECK FOUNDATION Announces 2018 “Whiskey, Wine & Moonshine” Event to raise funds for Vest-Armor Upgrades for the Cornelius Police Force

August 10, 2018  - Cornelius, NC - Community Fundraiser to Support Cornelius Police Department with a “We Got Your Back” campaign.

TOPDECK FOUNDATION DONATES EMERGENCY EQUIPMENT

August 29, 2016 - Cornelius, NC - New Community Foundation Donates QuikClot kits for all squad cars and Lake Patrol boats

TopDeck is a public charity that is dedicated to raising funds to support the morale and mission of Cornelius Police Department.   Today they are donating sixty-three (63) QuikClot 1St response kits for all squad cars and lake patrol boats operated by the Cornelius Police Department.  Trauma is a major cause of death and disability and the second most expensive healthcare problem in the United States. Approximately 40% of trauma-related deaths are due to bleeding or its consequences, establishing hemorrhage as the most common cause of preventable death in trauma. QuikClot® devices, applied with manual pressure, promote clotting within minutes from application to help save more lives.

Emergency rescue vehicles have QuikClot kits but Law enforcement officers are often the first responders to arrive on the scene of an accident. The current tool set provided to Cornelius Police Department did not include QuikClot kits. Made by Z-Medica, these QuikClot® hemostatic devices are different from standard surgical gauzes. They stop bleeding significantly faster and are more effective than standard gauzes—and they are safe and intuitive to use.  Unlike other traditional medical gauze and bandages, QuikClot® devices are made with kaolin, an inorganic mineral that accelerates the body’s natural clotting ability and produces no allergic reaction.

TopDeck Foundation was formed to generate supplemental funds and partner with Cornelius Police Chief Hoyle to determine how best to leverage the generosity of the community. One of the first items asked for was this additional emergency medical tool.  Chief Hoyle says, "the Cornelius Police Department is appreciative of this donation of emergency equipment. We are pleased to provide these QuikClot kits to our officers who work out  in the community and sometimes confront emergency medical situations.”   Don Rainey, a founder of TopDeck said “TopDeck continues to raises funds for items not covered in the town’s annual budget. Our next event is a “Whiskey, Wine & Moonshine” fundraiser on September 10th to raise funds for additional programs and equipment.”

TopDeck Foundation was incorporated as a N.C. LLC by Don & Bridget Rainey and Mark & Kim Sailors in late 2015.   It is a public charity (non-profit) that has received 501 (c)3 designation from the IRS.
